How to do a Spring Cleaning in your Home
Spring Cleaning is the process of thoroughly cleaning a place, especially your home.
We will be spring cleaning the room of our home to make it easy for us. Also, just in case we don’t finish the whole house in a day depending on how big your home is.
I would say don’t push yourself too much, do it at your pace especially if you are a mom and have kids.
I want you not to be in a rush because some of these activities we don’t do every time.
You have to take your time and clean thoroughly. For me, it will surely take a day because I have a small apartment.
BATHROOM
This had to be the first on my list because it is my most concerned area in the house, we will start spring cleaning by:
Take out all the shower curtains, shower liners and bath mats in all the bathrooms and wash or replaced them if need be.
Dust your walls for cobwebs and dust your light fixtures, baseboard with a duster.
Clean and sanitize your bathtub or shower you can use distilled vinegar, water and dish soap mixed in a spray bottle.
Spray down your tub and shower then use a brush to scrub everything. If you are not comfortable with vinegar use this
Clean and sanitize your toilet, I love using bleach, I spray the vinegar mixture and disinfect wipes or paper towels to clean every part of my toilet.
For the inside, the Clorox wand is perfect because it is disposable.
Next, we go to our cabinets, bring you a trash can and start going through all the products in your bathroom.
Expired products and empties should to tossed in the trash, then you can donate the ones you are not using.
Using a microfiber cloth, clean the products you will be putting back, wipe them down inside the cabinets and organize the products properly.
Here is some organising stuff you can check out.
Clean your mirror and the top of your cabinet. Finally vacuum and mob.
BEDROOM
Start spring cleaning your bedroom with washing all your bedding; bedsheets, pillowcase, duvet, mattress pad and even your pillows.
Yes, your pillows get dirty too and they are forgotten most times. Check if they are machine washable and wash them.
Roll up the rugs and move the furniture in your room. You would be amazed by the amount of dirt that has accumulated under your furniture, especially under your bed.
Clean up and mop the area, then shift them back.
For your mattress, flip it to the other side then sprinkle baking soda all over. Let it sit for a while before vacuuming. This helps eliminate odours, moisture and tackle stains.
Dust down your light fixtures, ceiling fan, baseboard, picture frames etc.
If you have kids disinfect their toys, throw the plastic toys in the dishwasher.
Clean any decoration you have, then your curtains and blinds should be cleaned don’t forget also your windows to wipe them down.
Your closet is another work for me I would advise to set a different day to declutter and organize it if you don’t have a system in place already
Finally, you vacuum the floor and mop.
KITCHEN
For spring cleaning you kitchen you start with dusting all your light fixtures, baseboard, fan and wipe them down.
Clean the windows, curtains and blinds.
Start decluttering your pantry, fridge and freezer expired products or empties should be removed, then wipe them down and organise them properly. For the freezer defrost it before cleaning.
Clean your dishwasher with vinegar if you have one
Deep clean your stove and oven including the iron grates and oven racks, don’t also forget your microwave, kettle, coffee machine etc clean all your appliances.
When cleaning your stove don’t forget the wall where your stove is, I am sure it would be dirty from all the cooking.
Bring out things from your shelves and drawers, wipe down the drawers and shelves them reorganise everything back. Wipe the outside of your cabinet.
Clean your countertop, your sink and your faucet. Sweep and mop, then take out your trash and wash your trash can.
DINING ROOM
Spring cleaning your dining area will start with washing the table covers and clean any decoration you have on the table.
Wipe down the baseboards, light switches and fixtures if you have any, doorknobs.
Next are the chairs, the table and all surfaces should be wiped down.
If there are curtains and blinds they should be cleaned properly.
Vacuum the rug and floor, then your mob.
LIVING ROOM
You should start spring cleaning your living room by removing all the throw pillow covers, blankets and chair covers to wash.
If you have curtains too you should also throw that in the washer, then clean your blinds.
Dust all surfaces, electronics, lamps and any appliance you have in your living room.
Clean your ceiling fan, picture frames and decorations.
Wipe down the baseboard, remote control, light switches, doorknobs then wash your windows.
Clean and organize your shelves and cabinets.
Move your couch and chairs and vacuum and mop under it, then vacuum your couch too.
Vacuum your rug, sweep the whole floor and mop. You can now put everything in its rightful place.
In Conclusion
This is how to do a spring cleaning in your home. These are the major rooms everyone has but depending on how big your house is you may have more but the basics for every room are:
- Clean all the windows, doors, light fixtures, light switches and doorknobs.
- Shift your furniture to clean and mob under them. Dust and wipe down all the surfaces in your home
- Wash all curtains and blinds, also wipe down the baseboard in the whole house.
- Vacuum all carpets and rugs. Make sure you sweep the whole house and mob too.
NOTE: Because I am extra, don’t forget to light a candle, or use a diffuser or room sprays, anything you love that would make your home smell nice. I tell you you are ready for spring.
